• Is your wedding themed? What are the main colors of the theme?

• What color are the bridesmaids dresses or the wedding dress

• What is the color of the flowers/floral at the wedding, is there a specific one getting featured throughout

• Think about if there is a primary color been used at the wedding reception?

• What is the season of the marriage is this getting incorporated into the theme? Spring, summer, fall, winter colors

So stop stressing, cool down your printed wedding invitations aren’t ruined. There are a few options and I recommend which ever one works for you. Get a little bit of ribbon and do some tests on the following solutions. Depending on the type and width of the ribbon it may change! 

Things to stop your wedding invitation ribbons from fraying:

Nail polish: Usually one of the better methods, just dab a little on you may be able to see it if you go to heavy.

Hairspray: Works also but can change the overall color of the ribbon

Wax: Also works can get messy

Burning: A slightly more risk one but slightly burning the edge can stop fraying

Fray stopper: available at sowing shops, made to stop fraying!

Working out the paper you are printing on should be the first step when you are making your printable wedding invitations.

But before that the first thing is working out what paper you will use is what theme/feel you want for your wedding as the initial invites do set the tone. So what will it be a traditional invite, elegant invite, casual invite, beach invite? Work out which one suit you. Pick paper that matches the feel and pick paper colors that match the theme.

Useful DIY Wedding Printing Paper Tips

When you do pick your paper make sure the layer that you print on isn’t over textured as your printable wedding invitations won’t come out. If you do want to use textured paper overlaying is usually the best way to get around this.

Home printing and vellum paper

Transparent paper also known as vellum paper can often be used to print text onto and overlay a picture or paper. When printing your wedding invitations make sure that you work out what side is the printable side of the vellum before sending 100 plus prints off. Usually it is the textured side as the smooth side will not absorb or hold the ink!

Wedding Invite Check List:

- Do you have enough time to personally make the wedding invites? It is often a job that takes hours and can be high stress. A professional still could be the easier option.

- What paper stock are you going to print the wedding invites on to? Will this fit in with the theme? The type of paper you print on is often what makes or breaks an invite. The rest is usually some nice scripted font with good type design. I suggest you obtain some samples and test that it fits in your printer and it prints fine (doesn’t smudge or run often a problem on certain glossy paper with an ink jet printer)

- How many people are invited to the wedding? This will determine how much paper stock you will need!

- How many invites will fit onto a sheet of paper, yet again how much printable wedding invitation paper will you need!

- How many sheets you will need (always have more since you will miss cut some accidentally) People coming divided by how many fit on the paper!

- Other pieces of paper that go in with the invite (wishing well, RSVP Card). What else is going out in the envelope with your invite! I strongly suggest that you keep these on the same paper stock to get a holistic look and feel to your wedding invites!

- Do you have space to cut out and form the invites? After you have printed out the wedding invites you will find that most of your time will be spent cutting the invites you just printed. Especially if you have decided on a multiple layer invite which is quiet frequent!
